GRAND TRAVERSE HOMESCHOOL inclusive networking support

Grand Traverse Homeschool Support Group

Grand Traverse Homeschool Mission Statement

We believe that any parent choosing to homeschool will find that they have embarked upon a life-altering journey.   We believe that each family who makes this choice, no matter the differences, shares homeschooling as a profound uniting commonality.  We believe that every homeschooling family benefits from support and encouragement, no matter where they are at in their homeschooling journey.  Thus, our mission is to serve as an open, inclusive networking hub/communication portal and in-person support group for all homeschoolers in the Northwest region of Michigan.

Our Organizational Structure

We have no dues or membership requirements for joining (individual activities may have fees, which are optional).  We are welcoming of all, no matter what you believe, your family construct, or where you are at in your homeschooling journey.

We communicate via an email loop sponsored by yahoo groups.  Our vision is for the yahoo group to serve as a community bulletin board, networking numerous homeschoolers together and creating a large pool of resources for its members (as reflected by the diverse skills, talents, and interests of the homeschooling community).

We share links, encouragement, knowledge of community events, and invites to activities for homeschoolers.

We are structured as a non-directed support organizationEvery member is welcome to facilitate an activity or field trip.  Ideas and tips about organizing your own activity are located in our files at the yahoo group.

Our structure allows other homeschool support group members to be a part of GTH for networking purposes, and yet remain autonomous in their own organizational structure.

"Another merit of home is that it preserves the diversity between individuals. If we were all alike, it might be convenient for the bureaucrat and the statistician, but it would be very dull, and would lead to a very unprogressive society." - Bertrand Russell
  • By joining the yahoo group, you will receive notification of activities for homeschoolers that have been made known to us.  MEMBERS OF OTHER GROUPS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN and post about their events for greater "word of mouth."

  • Besides being a networking email loop, we are also an in-person support group, mainly in and around Traverse City.  Be sure to check our In-Person Support page to see what activities are happening now and are on the horizon.

  • Don't forget to check out Michigan Networking to find great field trips around the state, state parks, other support groups, and upcoming national conferences.

  • More information about the group can be found in the FAQs section and at the Join Us tab.

  • Resources from the world wide web can be found on the links page; please email us if you know of a particularly useful link we missed.  Helpful links will continue to be emailed to you when you join the yahoo group.

I have explored the website to my satisfaction and would like to join!
